The drovers used to cross their cattle here on their way to the cattle trysts at Crieff and Falkirk. A turf-walled change house served as an inn in the mid 18th century, when it was the scene of a confrontaion between the men of Sleat, led by Ruairidh MacIain Macdonald, and the Macmillans of Loch Arkaig, during the last cattle raid on Skye. In the early 1800s the changehouse was replaced by a stone built inn.
